Paying (or not) for dates?

It's the general social rule any way, at least for people that don't know each other well. Just say it like it's no big deal, to eliminate any anxiety she has. If she insists after that, then split it with her - again, no big deal. In the second case, if she has unnecessary anxiety that there may be a perception of obligation, it eliminates it and makes her more comfortable with you.

The idea of not paying for dates/making the girl pay is one of the worst pieces of advice offered on this subreddit.

Always pay for the first date. When you go for to grab the bill, if she goes to pay too or insists on splitting it, she's probably a good girl. If she doesn't even make a move for the bill (as if she expects it), be careful.

There's nothing wrong with paying if you invite them out for dinner or something. If you're just going out for drinks you can say "I'll get the first round" which pretty much sets the idea that you are going round for round. If you're paying a bill at the end of the night, you can say "let's go dutch on this bill" which is a better way of saying "you're not drinking for free".

Don't worry about paying for dates though. What you want to avoid is buying a stranger a drink just to talk to you. That's lame.
