TLDR: When scared to approach, start asking yourself "what if she's my next girlfriend?". Also, nervousness is actually excitement. But read the thing tho and don't be a lazy fuck.
EDIT: apparently my message can be potentially misunderstood so before you read: this method doesn't do anything else but make you move your ass. It doesn't make the girl say yes, it doesn't make you look better, it doesn't do jackshit that isn't ass moving towards a girl. The example I posted was just to show that I managed to kill my approach anxiety for once and luckily got something good out of it, whilst if I listened to my fears and doubts, I would never have. Then again, it's the intent that matters.
Sorry for the clickbaitish title but after trying so many methods to beat AA, this one I'm about to illustrate is probably the most effective.
So, we all know what are the thoughts that usually come up in our head when we want to approach: "What if she doesn't like me, what if she has a boyfriend, what if she's gonna make fun of me, she's too pretty, blahblahblahblah." We can all agree they do nothing but harm and, eventually, paralyze us into doing nothing.
The trick is to reframe those "what ifs" into positives. What do I mean? I mean that instead of asking yourself all those negative questions, as soon as they come up, ask yourself positive ones, for example: "What if she's my next girlfriend? What if she's my next fuckbuddy? What if she's into guys exactly like me? What if she's a great adventure for this night?..." and so forth.
This will not magically kill your nervousness, but will actually push you to take action, because instead of being held by the fear of something bad happening, you'll be moved by the excitement of something good happening. It's a small effort but it completely changes the picture.
Moreover, it goes along especially well with what Simon Sinek teaches in this video (watch it, it's just 2:30). But the TL;DR is: nervousness and excitement have exactly the same somatic response. So when you're nervous, tell yourself you're actually excited, and you'll start to feel exactly like that.
Tested it myself 2 weeks ago, and keep in mind, I suck at this game. Anyway: I was at the bus stop, 4pm, there was this extremely pretty girl talking with her friend plus a bunch of random people. I make some remark about her resemblance to a famous actress then start minding my own business. Nothing in our 30 seconds long interaction led me to possibly believe she could like me. Bus was due in 1 minute. I wanted to ask her number, knees were shaking, palms sweaty. I applied the method described above; actually found myself asking her to exchange numbers. She says "sure!". I'm coming back just now from a blissful first date with her.
Try it! I think it's better than anything else ever suggested.
