When you feel your first buzz coming on, drink a full glass of water. Be sure to move around every so often, because standing is a better indicator of intoxication than sitting. Then, when you feel yourself start to sober up, start drinking again. Titrate to effect.

Try avoiding hard alcohol and just sticking to beer. This usually does the trick. Also set a limit for the night based on your tolerance, and stick to it. Good luck man.

Also, try working out earlier in the day before going out. The endorphin release will work to loosen you up and make you more relaxed. This will also enhance your buzz from the booze so you won't need as much.

Alcoholics Anonymous used to have a list of 40 questions to determine if you are an alcoholic. Now they just have one question: once you start drinking, are you unable to control how much you drink?
You may not go drinking often, but once you have a drink, if you can't stop, then you're not a "normal drinker." Alcoholics have no off switch. A normal drinker will start to get drunk and think "oh man I feel kinda sick, I better stop drinking." An alcoholic does not stop, and may even enjoy the sick feeling. He will drink until he blacks out.
I'm not trying to label you an alcoholic. I participated in Alanon (no, not the drinkers in AA, the friends and family of drinkers) and it is a firm rule, you can't label someone else an alcoholic, they have to decide for themselves. I am just pointing out that binge drinking and drinking past the point of intoxication are not really normal behaviors.
On a separate note, I read an article recently (somewhere in seddit I think) that when you go out drinking, most of the women you see with a drink, are not really drinking that much. If you are wasted, you are far more drunk than most of the people in the bar. This puts you at a disadvantage.
My suggestion is that you slow your drinking rate. Drink a glass of water or soda between alcoholic drinks. Stay hydrated, and don't gulp down shots or guzzle beers. If you drink faster than you can metabolize alcohol, you will get drunk and feel sick the next day.
But if you can't slow down, or can't control your drinking, if you will have to find some way to deal with that as "problem drinking." Some groups feel that you can work your way down to moderate to light drinking. AA thinks you can never drink at all, ever again. They say, "it's not the last drink that gets you drunk, it's the first one."

I am not saying this is a good thing, but this was absolutely a normal thing when I was in college (3 years ago).

No, it really wasn't. It still isn't. CSPI has statistics, they say that in the 12-20 year old demographic, 18.8% are binge drinkers. That's a minority. In 4 year colleges, only 44% have binged, but they are responsible for 91% of all alcohol that students consumed. So binge drinkers have a disproportionate visibility amongst drinkers. That last statistic would seem to indicate that at any college drinking situation, the minority of students are drinking the vast majority of the alcohol. So while binge drinking is common, it isn't "normal." Like I said, most of the people you see at a bar aren't binging and getting wasted.

Max 3 drinks in the first hour to get your buzz going, then one drink per hour after that to maintain it.
And maybe its best to consider giving up the drink all together. If you cant drink responsibly, you shouldnt drink at all

Dude if you're getting kicked out of bars on the regular, you need to quit drinking for a while. Try smoking pot. Also if you need to ask how to control your drinking you probably have a drinking problem.
