This should be implicit, but sometimes even the best of us forget. Make sure that whoever is helping you out gets something in return - by you being the wing, by making the night fun in general, or whatever it is.

I am a college student and last night I was at a large fraternity party. I bring my good friend, let's call her A, to the party as well. A is an amazing dirty dancer, and it is through her that I had come to have any type of dance standards, as well as vastly improve my dancing skills. Dancing with A is sexy, but we agree to keep it at a friend-level

At this party, dancing with A is a lot of fun -- and it shows. I notice a LOT of other girls watching us work with complicated dance rhythms and getting really into it. When I would "detach" from dancing with A, girls would come to me and want to dance like that.

I had an idea that I should dance with A close to girls I was trying to game to: instigate mild jealousy, demonstrate my high value with dancing skill, and really just have fun watching their reactions. I told A about and she was into it, so I frequented the phrase, "Let's go make bitches jealous."

It did work. But that's not the point of this post. The point is that I didn't set A up with anything -- I didn't wing for her or do anything really. By the end of the night, all of our dancing was to "make bitches jealous," not for the sake of dancing and have fun. I got a little too selfish, and A didn't like being used.

The night turned out fine. A is the closest thing I've had to a wing-woman, and I like partying with her, so it can't (and shouldn't) be all about me.
