I see a lot of posts asking "how do I figure out X about my life" etc. It's hard for anyone else to tell you this, because what works for someone else won't necessarily work for you. You are motivated by different things. Rather than asking about specific things to do, guidance on what TYPES of things to figure out about who you are as a person is what you need. When you figure those things out you can have a better understanding of your values, principles, and motivations. The specific actions you should take or goals you should pursue come from that. You need to define those values and motivations for yourself. That's what self-actualization is- coming into your own and achieving self awareness that lets you live a life true to yourself.

The goal of self improvement should not be achieving standards set by society or others around you, to fit in. It should be about living a life as true to yourself and on your terms as you possibly can. Figuring out what matters to you and what you want and letting that motivate you to bring those things into your life, because it fulfills you and makes you a whole human being-not because it gets other people to like you. People achieve this through many means. Talk therapy, meditation, writing, art, creativity, smoking weed and philosophizing about life, seeking advice from people you admire. The point is you gotta figure out what works for you, but start somewhere.

Some questions to ask yourself that can help you get started on this process:

  1. Where am I at emotionally? Mentally? Intellectually? Physically?
  2. Am I living a life that fulfills me and gives me purpose?
  3. What do I really want? If I don't know, what can I do to try and figure this out? Be resourceful
  4. Am I living according to my principles and desires or others? Again, if you don't know what your principles and desires really are, try and figure out HOW you can figure it out
