What is "good personality" to you? If by this you just mean "not openly rude or disagreeable" or something along those lines, you might want to be a little more discerning, unless you just want something casual.

Do you have common interests? Are there qualities about her that you can relate to or admire? Does she laugh at your jokes? When she talks about things, are you interested in the same topic, or would you rather talk about something else most of the time? If she wasn't an attractive girl, would you still enjoy spending time with her? These are the types of things to consider when gauging compatibility- just look a little bit beyond the surface. If you still like what you see, then go for it, it doesn't matter what others think.

I'd recommend just trying it out, learn your tastes and see what your into. I have dated quite a few girl who weren't my type and learnt a lot from each of them
