There's your problem. It's a conversation, not an interview. Stop relying on questions.

Dont ask her something.. TELL her something.. tell her a joke, or make a funny remark about the lecturer or how much the class sucks, tell her you like her shoes or something.. compliments, or even lightly tease her for something.. she will comment on what you have just said, then you just comment back. Think of it like a game of tennis, where the ball comes back and forth..not like golf where you just keep hitting questions and questions until you get closer to the hole..

There was a great post a while back called "the rise of you" or something like that, which outlined the FORD structure (family, occupation, recreation, dreams), which I found to be really interesting, even just to use on friends, male and female alike. I think the key to good conversation is to give just as much as you get or are expecting to get, i.e. if you're expecting anecdotes and insights into things you're talking about, expect to also give the same. It's all about compromise, you know?

Yeah like the dude below me said, stop going into interview mode and asking questions one after another. Ask about what you genuinely want to know and talk about what you like talking about regardless of what you think about them. I would practice talking to random strangers and starting a convo.. I used to do that to get better
