I'm going to try and write this down while it seems so clear to me:

  • Depression is a prolonged state of unhappiness
  • Unhappiness is not meeting your expectations in life
  • Happiness is meeting your expectations or letting go of them
  • Having fun is trying something new and succeeding
  • Fear comes from trying new things

So If I go one day without feeling fear then I'm moving towards depression. Doing something that scares me every day, even if its just a little, is my only path to happiness.

What scares me right now: - taking an std test - calling my dad - talking to my prof about my missed work - signing up for an improv class

All these things are scary for me because they are new. If I don't do any of them tomorrow my life will become stagnant. So the choice is up to me. Do I want to be happy tomorrow?

I'm not sure if i'm using the right meaning of depression. I think that for some people depression might be a medical condition that has a deeper cause than unhappiness. Also another idea I've been thinking about is that anxiety and paranoia comes from having an inflated sense of importance. Just some ideas... I feel like they fit with my life, but they might be too vague or esoteric for anyone else.
