Hey guys. Long time lurker here with a question I can't find the answer to.

I've been on seddit for a few months now and having lots of success. One very basic element I see pop up here a lot is the idea of speaking slowly to convey power and attract attention. Also, the idea that people who speak quickly are subconsciously seen by others as nervous and insecure.

While I don't really disagree with that 100%, I notice that people who speak quickly and clearly without pauses are often regarded as intelligent. I hang out with a lot of mathematicians, engineers, and computational physicists, and they all have a tendency to speak at a pretty brisk pace. I've always felt while having a conversation with these people that they come across as though their CPU is actually processing information at a faster rate than normal. A good example might be Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock character, where he had long strings of unbroken thoughts connected together because he's supposed to be thinking faster/more easily.

Also, I feel like speaking quickly can convey a sense of confidence because the person isn't searching for the next thing to say because they already KNOW what they want to say and why. Also, I know I have a tendency to speak quickly when I talk about a subject I'm passionate about, which I know girls are attracted to.

Obviously I'm going to experiment with speaking more slowly, but I just wanted to get anyone else's opinion on this, because I've been thinking about it for a while now, and I feel like a combination of the two may be more my style.

TL;DR: are people who speak quickly sometimes regarded as intelligent, or just insecure?
