Suburban bars suffer from the issue of usually having the same patrons. Try to get to know some regulars (of either gender, this includes bar staff) and become a familiar face. The main downside is that word spreads fast in these environments, so tread a little lightly at first, but do tread.

I'd suggest bringing a group of friends if you've met some already. You want to make the bar a place that is a certain level of comfortable/fun for you, then at that point it's simply a matter of approaching a girl just like at any other bar.

Keep in mind that some suburban bars can get just as packed/loud as city bars on certain nights, but usually it's just some friend groups hanging there. If people are standing in circles, try to find some medium to interact with another circle - request a pong partner if they're running pong that night, compliment her, or even go the old route of buying her a drink.

TL;DR the only major difference is that it's usually the same people who are always there, while city bars see many more fresh faces. Just remember that you're a fresh face in that kind of environment, use it to your advantage!
