I don't always use smiley faces, but when i do its when I'm talking to a girl. Not only do I use smileys, I got the whole emoji library. I send them kissy, winkey, frowny, all sorts of faces. I think bitches may just love faces.

I don't know what the rest of these guys are talking about. I use them a lot, and pretty much only with girls. I have a very expressive face in person, so the emoticons help convey that missing bit of communication with text messages.

Cmon guys. We're smarter than this. Smiley faces, among other things in pickup, is only a means to an end. If it helps, then do it. Simple.
And to be honest I'm a little disappointed in almost everyone here trying so hard to be alpha and macho. When done correctly, smiley faces simply convey emotional expressions in your text. Women DO NOT like men who are stoic. Even James Bond cracks a smile and that weirdo ain't even real. Listen: there is no such thing as a man who's truly good with women who isn't funny or happy. Use smiley faces. Just don't overdo it. Maybe once every 4-5 text. And use ones that show emotions like the wink one and the sunglasses smiley.
Since texting has allowed people to communicate on a more accessible but less intimate manner, you're gonna need the added benefit.
And only losers rule something out without testing it and knowing the truth. Fuck the word alpha, I'm just me. 😝

Totally agree. It's funny you mention bond because I went through this phase a few months ago when I everytime I was texting a girl I would ask myself "what would bond text?" now I use smilies in moderation and only a ;) when I'm teasing them.

I wouldn't. I heard a great piece of advice once that said not to use emoticons or even exclamation points in your text messages. It may seem like a good idea at the time but go back and read conversations when you did and you get douche chills when you realize you look like a 6 year old. I have a coworker who would go into a whole thing about how this was part of the 'push/pull' game since there's a big difference between "Happy Birthday! :-)!!!" Where you sound like one of her girlfriends and "Happy Birthday." Where you're a fucking man who sounds like you almost forgot about it. She won't feign appreciation when you say it this way because she's not sure if you even mean it. He goes on for another 20 minutes with this... Ultimately it comes down to the dynamic between the two of you. Speaking from personal experience I've noticed a tremendous increase in positive responses when my messages appear cool, in control and absolute. Maybe it helps display nonchalance, I don't know. Maybe I'm talking out of my ass? I don't know... I'm just sharing my own path. Good luck regardless. The texting phase is a pain in the ass on a good day.
That's a good way to think about it but I'll take your advice with a grain of salt, I know girls like stoic guys but I don't want to be seen as emotionless

I get what you're saying. However, it can actually work the opposite way if you can get the hang of it. Since this has become my standard method of texting women, any display of emotion or excitement comes off ten fold now. When I tell her I'm excited to see her, she believes it because I've already established that I only say what I mean and I'm not one for exaggerations or embellishments. Again, it's not for everyone and it's not for every girl. I've found it helpful because I use my texting style as just another tool to help display the confidence and decisiveness that I've developed. Look, just try it out for a few days. Then after a week, go back and read the conversation again. When you see how reserved and calm and almost mysterious your answers seem, I promise you'll find yourself saying "Man, I sound SO fucking cool..."

That's actually really good advice. Using smiley faces is something girls do. You want to stand apart from her female friends. Women find it attractive when a guy acts like his world doesn't revolve around sending messages like "Happy birthday! :)" or "How was your day? :D"

Do you use emoticons and smilies when you text with you friends? Do you like to use them?
There is no right or wrong answer here, it is entirely up to you. I use them a lot, I think it suits my personality, and helps me to convey tone and intent via text. Sometimes I'll try to keep it to a minimum, but it feels disingenuous. Do whatever is genuine to YOU.

Emoticons are percieved as real faces.. that's how much we connect thru virtual conversations.

Don't use smiley faces. Be direct and terse with your texts. The main reason to text is to set up the date.
This.

Trust me, it's not a good idea to use smiley faces as a guy. Girls take you less seriously when you use them. And it makes you seem overly excited which is something you don't want to convey over a text. The more serious you are, the more manly you seem. And the more attractive you appear.
