I just flirt. I show an interest in what she says. Remember things she says. Act a bit dumb/silly soo she can pick me up on it.

I don't really go crazy with emoticons, I even really only use ones you can make with the keyboard.

I say goodnight, and I don't know why but always like leaving it with her being the last to text.

in highschool? haha you definitely do not need to rely on texting so much. You go to school 5 days a week and so do the girls, its not difficult to see them around again. It becomes difficult when you meet girls once, and if you don't do anything about it, you probably will never see them again.

as far as texting. I like to use full words, and mostly correct punctuation, put your English class to use. some emoticons are ok, IF she uses a lot of them, then its ok to throw some back at her. if not then keep them to a minimum.... i like to open with a joke or a "how was your weekend", or whatever... kind of like small talk. I then find something to connect me to asking her out or proceeding to whatever I'm trying to do with this girl..

For example if i ask her how her weekend was and she says, "i did nothing stayed home all day." I will say something like "yeah, i think we are in need of some open air, Let's go to the beach this weekend"

obviously you know her and yourself best so choose your words and activities appropriately.

Last thing. It is more than ok NOT to be so worried about that immediate response. This goes both ways. its ok to wait a little to respond, especially if she is not responding so quickly either. People have shit to do, or shit on their mind, can't expect them to be ready to text you all day, and quite honestly you shouldn't be either.

Don't force it; whether 'it' is humour, a compliment, conversation, etc. Respond how you want to respond, when you want to respond. If you use smilies, use smilies. If she doesn't like that you use smilies, move on, keep meeting and talking with new people until you meet someone who likes your smilies. Just do you. Also - and I can't stress this enough - make conversation. I don't mean that "sup?" bullshit. That will get you nowhere. Ask legitimate questions, even "What's your favorite color" has the potential to spark a conversation.

Don't force the conversation. If she doesn't reply, leave it - she's a. busy, b. doesn't have a response to what you've said or c. >other<. She hasn't replied, and she will if she wants to. Pushing her ain't going to help.

Use exclamation marks if you want to. Just maybe don't use more than three at a time - that's stylistic more than anything else.

Reply when you receive the message, and are free to give your attention to your phone. If that's half a minute or an hour, whatever. See paragraph one. Don't force it.

Emoticons - you're in high school, you guys use emoticons. I personally [20F] detest them, as I feel you should be able to convey an emotion or a feeling IN WORDS - but I get they can be useful. Just maybe avoid the winky face. Please. Please avoid the winky face and reconsider the tongue face. A smile is acceptable.

Don't respond if the conversation has come to a natural close. Text her if you have a reason to - ie. you're chatting, bantering back and forth, you see something that you think she'd like - eg. she's really into museums, you see an exhibition advertised that you think she'd dig. Text her and mention it and suggest going together sometime. I repeat, though - DON'T FORCE IT.

Say goodnight if you feel you have that sort of relationship/friendship. I find goodnight texts cute sometimes, and offputting at other times. The answer to this depends on the dymnamic. If you're texting quite late at night, when the conversation draws to a close - AND DON'T SEND AN EXTRA TEXT JUST TO SAY GOODNIGHT IF IT'S DIED ORGANICALLY, that's needy - wish her sweet dreams and see how she responds. That's a good texting ground.

Also, forget the whole damn x's nonsense. I've had people cry at me because I forgot to put kisses when I was in high school. Just mimic whatever number she's giving and go for two if you're in doubt.

Text is mainly for logistic purposes. Once your game is good theirs no need for phone game. And there after the only objective is to be nuetrual while texting to not Fuck things up.

I recommend calling them even if you have trouble with phone calls. It sets you apart (from the other 5 guys that she is probably also texting) and a 15 minute phone call is like a mini date. Just remember to flirt.

Every unnecessary text will reduce your value in her eyes. It's like shooting yourself in the foot.

If you are hard for her to reach / less available, she will wonder why you're so busy. That's what you want.
