Texting too much, or trying to be cute/clever in your texts, makes you appear needy and desperate. To be safe, you should use texting mainly as a way of setting up dates with girls. Keep your messages short and to the point, and avoid things like texting her to ask how her day is going or trying to "game" her via text.

Isn't that a limiting belief that texts should only be used to set up logistics. I mean good texting can make a girl go from a "umm I don't know" to "ok sure" to meeting up with you. Online dating is pretty much built off the idea that you can text a girl into meeting up with you.

The idea of "text gaming" is something that appeals to a lot of guys because they consider it less intimidating than trying to seduce a girl in person. They think they can spend a half-hour thinking up the perfect witty text and it will cause the girl to fall for them. It almost never works like that. "Text game" is no substitute for being charming in person. The harder you try to game a girl via text, the more likely you are to come across as needy and desperate.
If you make a great impression on a girl in person, you can be bland and boring in your texts and she'll still like you. But if you didn't make a good impression in person, you can be the William Shakespere of texting and she still probably won't want anything to do with you.

No, online dating is built on the idea that you and the girl decide that you like each other's profiles, so you decide to meet in person. Back when I was new to Tinder, whenever I'd match with a girl I'd try to charm her by sending witty/clever messages to her and carrying on long conversations with her. More often than not this resulted in her losing interest in me. These days when I match with a girl on Tinder I try to get her number as quickly as possible, and then I start trying to set up a face-to-face meet. I've been much more successful using this approach.

My opinion of texting is follow her lead. Start by using the standard rule of texting only for logistics, but if she's insistent on texting more don't be afraid to reciprocate. Just be careful of texting rules; no double texting, don't always text first, no "how's your day", don't be afraid to let a text conversation die, no "lol" after ever text, you get the idea.
There's just a lot of little things you have to be aware of. Make sure she's more invested in the texting than you. If it seems like she doesn't want the text conversation to die then you're golden. And for the love of god make sure you don't get friendzoned through text. It is stupidly easy to do this. You can prevent it by always having a date setup in the near future. Also don't be afraid to drop innuendos throughout your texts with a "😏" if you guys are using emojis. Don't worry if she doesn't reciprocate, it shows your intent.
Tl;Dr: text if she texts you, don't text if she doesn't text you.
Also out of curiosity how old are you? Younger girls will always text more than older women because of the Facebook generation.

If you think about it, when you text for a long period of time you just become pen pals. texting is the ultimate way to get friend zoned. You use your phone to text, pick it up call her, its a much better way to keep attraction going. Its a much faster way also to see if you vibe or if its going to be a waste of time. Ideally you want to set up a date as fast as possible, but if she is apprehensive a phone call is a good way to have her experience you and feel comfortable enough to meet you.
