Most people advise you that messing around with your co-workers or classmates is a bad idea and they have good reason to be concerned. However, meeting someone through work or class still remains to be one of the top ways people find their husband, wife or significant other. Here's the way to do it without getting yourself reported to HR or creating an extremely awkward classroom.

  1. Observe this person's behavior. How does she act towards you vs your other co-workers or classmates? Does she talk with you a lot after class? During work? Is this different from the way she acts with others in the class/office? This will give you a better idea if she actually likes you or is just being friendly.

  2. Be friendly with them but don't linger. You should spend time with them but not too long as you don't want to turn yourself into the classroom creep or office weirdo. Forcing people to talk to you for too long when they have nowhere to go will do this. Keep it relatively short if you can but with smiles.

  3. Invite them to a hang out at a group event with your other classmates and/or co-workers. It could be a happy hour you are going to or a colleague's party is happening that Friday. Either way its a chance to see them in a social setting that isn't an outright date. Inviting her to an event with a group of people you already know, also gives you plausible deniability.

  4. Get to know her at the event. You can start talking about work as a jumping off point here but if you are in a social setting your main goals should not be to talk about work. Find out more about them. Their hobbies, dreams, goals. You want her to kind of "start again" getting to know each other not as co-workers or classmates but as potential romantic partners.

  5. See how she acts towards you during the event. Who is she spending time with? Is she spending the most time with you or colleagues? If she's spending time talking and opening up to you these are good signs. You can flirt a bit here and see if she flirts back here.

  6. If things go well invite her to hang out just the two of you. This is where the "date" can finally happen. However, I wouldn't always call it a "date." That word can freak out a lot of girls, especially if it's between a co-worker or classmate.

And that is it. If things work out between you too then awesome! If not try and transition to friends as soon as possible to avoid as much awkwardness as possible. And please if you are trying to sleep around save that for a place you don't show up to every single day. It will make your life hell. Trust me.
