As far as being a wingMAN goes, giving a guy room to do his thing is about the best you can hope for, otherwise you might steal his thunder a little. However, a wingwoman can be much more proactive. Basically, pretend like you are super interested in your wing, be flirty, touchy feely, etc. Particularly if you are attractive and dressed well, this will give him social proof and your display of interest will increase the interest other girls have

My best friend is also my wingwoman. I usually send her to the venue 30 minutes before I get there, and every time she integrates herself with a group of women. I get an instant introduction to the group, and she does nothing but beam positive things about me when I go to the bar for a drink or w/e.
