Yeah dude, hang back. You've already shown to her that you come off as needy and desprete. Your best bet is to wait until she reaches out. Also next time, I wouldn't ask the friend where she is, that's borderline stalk-ish. Especially if the friend is a very close one.

Best case you are in the friend zone. Worst case you could lose your job and have a hard time getting a new one.
