But tell her she's cute and stuff is fine.

It's about being socially calibrated. But direct is fine. So is indirect. It doesn't really matter. She's either into you or she's not

What do you expect she will say if you ask her she is single? Do you really think any reasonably attractive woman will admit she is single? To them that's more shameful than having genital herpes. Being direct is saying "Hi, I like you, I find you attractive and I want to get to know you".

Don't ever ask a girl that unless you're only looking for a serious LTR.

You'll lose a ton of girls you could've met if you didn't ask.
