Trouble smiling?

It may sound stupid but I would say to sit in front of a mirror and just practice smiling. It'll probably be weird at first, but if you do it enough you'll develop a smile you're content with. Go for a devilish smirk that will make women go nuts.

In the book How to Talk to Anyone: 92 Little Tricks for Big Success, Leil talks about something called the 'slow smile' This type of smile is much more social powerful than say, flashing a grin. Start by let the corner of your eyes flex, build into a close lipped smile and then let your teeth come out. The slow build should end up in something that feel really genuine and is very warm to the person youre smiling at.

One approach I'll suggest, instead of telling yourself to smile, think of something that makes you happy, or something you find funny/amusing, a triggered memory of either might make you smile without you forcing yourself to smile.

I was told by an ex not too long ago that she would like to see me smile more.

I was floored at first as I have been working my attitude, cleaning house literally and figuratively and taking care of my body (eat/sleep/exercise) and generally life is heading in a good direction.

Then that.

So I realized that i was frowning a ton, not because life was bad, but it was a habit - and habits can be made and broken.

I also thought I looked goofy and fake smiling, but then again, I was being fake. My smiles were not natural.

So I decided to start practicing, not in a mirror, because that made me self-conscious, but in my car and at work when I was in my office and at home alone.

I have been trying, I am still working on it to make it the norm rather than the exception. My theory is that frowning was natural and therefore I didn't notice, so smiling can be natural and not noticed too.

TL;TR: practice in the car and other private places. Its free and easy after all.
