So a little bit of background. I am a sailing coach and my buddy and I always see girls either in other boats or kayaking while we are on the water. Sometimes we will go to the beach with the kids and there will be a cute girl tanning.

Now, paddle boarders are easy. While in the boat I simply drive up and ask if they need some help getting up wind. A lot of the time they make the mistake of going down wind thinking it is easy then realize getting back, going up wind, is next to impossible. From there I ask where there from, how they are enjoying the bay etc etc.

To girls that are sailing it is pretty easy, for me, also seeing as I am a sailing coach. Give them some help on what they are doing, then ask if they want to go for a real sail in a race or with friends on the weekend in one of our boats (our referring to my friends and me).

The nice thing about these is that I already have practice being confident with sailing and water related things. I teach kids from 5-15 how to sail. So, as long as I do not come off cocky it is easy to talk to someone while I am instructing/teaching them.

Now this falls short, very short I find. I have no idea how to finish this and open a girl on the beach. It is as if the sand is a dead mans land, I have no idea how to open a girl on the beach, whether she is tanning or... actually I guess unless she is with people hanging out she is tanning. I guess in the situation of passing I can comment on the person, although you can not really go from there, or at least I do not know how. In our situations we are beached hanging out in one general area, watching the kids so they do not do something dumb. Does it even make sense to bother a girl who is tanning? It almost feels wrong to compliment a girl or comment on the weather while a girl is tanning and laying on her stomach, I do not see any opening there.

What would you guys do? Or in the situation that you are on the water by whatever method and do not have the experience I have, what would you do?
