There is this girl who I see about once a week (sometimes twice) at an event. In the past two weeks she showed me signs of attraction (I have known her for about a year but didn't game with her until recently), but yesterday something happened that I don't understand.

I was talking in a group with mostly guys when the girl entered who I have been trying to get. She started talking to talking to the only other girl in the group in a boring way (just asking each other questions about school). She entered about 10 seconds after the conversation kinda ended.

I said the girl, "I feel bad for you, because you entered at the lul in the conversation". I was trying to show empathy, maybe she thought the conversation was going well.

She responded with something similar to, "Oh your saying that I just ruined the conversation". I couldn't tell if she was saying this in a playful way or an offended way.

And then she told her friend that she had to get home by 10pm (it was currently about 9:45), and she left.

I might have have been too reactive to her response. I replied to her response saying that wasn't what I meant, but I don't know if she heard.

Was she just shit-testing me? Was she being playful or offended? What should I have done in that situation? When did I make my first mistake?
