Hello Seddit. I've been lurking here for about a year now and have made some great improvements in my life based on many posts here so just wanted to give a thanks for that. Sorry in advance for lengthy post.

Now I met this girl (I'll call her Sara) early April soon after getting out of a LTR of about 2 years. I met her at a bar and we had a pretty fun conversation before getting her number and her leaving. Even though I met her in a big city, coincidentally she lived just one town over from me in a nearby state. While this was great at first, I realized soon after I began texting her that she actually was a student who went to school in a state across the country. I'm also a student but I go to school in our state so that leaves a big gap in distance for most of the year.

I know I likely should've let it die there. Maybe me being fresh out of a LTR clouded my judgement but I decided to keep talking to her in hopes of something working out. She's very attractive and funny and we got along well. Also summer break was approaching so I figured at the very least we could have some fun together for a few months before she went back to school.

Long story short, that didn't happen. I made my intentions clear pretty early and asked her on about 5 dates throughout the summer. She happily agreed to each one only to eventually flake at the last moment. She blamed most of them on her anxiety. I don't know enough about anxiety to know how legitimate that excuse is but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. The only reason I kept allowing it to happen was because other than the flakes, she seemed to be very much into what I was going for. She expressed attraction, flirted, and made everything seem like it was going well.

After the last time she flaked in the summer I told her that was it and I was done doing this with her. She apologized, I stopped all communication, and she eventually flew back to school at the end of August.

Near the end of September, she sent me a long message apologizing for everything and asking for a second chance. Against my better judgement I accepted because she really did seem genuinely apologetic. We started talking again and things seemed to be going even better than before. Only problem was her being 2,000 miles away.

Now this past weekend, Thanksgiving holiday for most, was the first time she was back in our state since she left for school. Before break started I made sure she knew I was going to want to take her out etc. so there was no ambiguity. No objections. Then break comes, she flies in and sees her family that she's been missing for months. We talk for a bit before I ask her to lunch on Friday. Then nothing. She just doesn't respond or even open my message.

I know I broke a lot of Seddit rules with this girl, and I'm not really upset that she managed to flake one last time (Part of me saw it coming). I just want to know what, if anything, could've be done to salvage this. Also if theres anything I've done wrong, please point it out to me. At the very least, I'd like this to be a learning experience for me but I'm not sure exactly where I went wrong.
