Try to find something to lean on. That's what I do most of the time and it seems alright. It's ok to have your arms at your sides as long as you don't look uncomfortable with the way you do it. Sometimes I stick my thumb through a belt loop or into a pocket, but be careful about having your whole hand in a pocket. Putting both my hands in pockets makes me feel like I'm retreating, which easily comes across negatively.

The only time I will cross my arms is when I'm trying to convey disbelief in a joking way, and with a quizzical smile, I've never gone wrong. Just don't forget to uncross them after a few moments.

Your body language needs to follow your intentions. Try to think about which postures make you feel open and avoid ones that bar you from spontaneous hugs, high fives, or touching.
