Open her, escalate her emotions and then shoot your shot. I would avoid the word "date". Many of my female friends say that when the guy says the word "date", it comes off really strong. However I don't know how well you know this girl or how close you are, if you're not close, I would recommend saying "lets hangout sometime" or something among those lines.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Does she know you like her? Does she like you? You may want to lay some groundwork to prepare her so that the date-ask is not so out of the blue.

"Meet up" is a casual phrase you can use to ask her when the time is right.
