Two of the biggest shows that have been circulating the water coolers and elevators of corporate America of our time have arguably been Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. The Sopranos before that, then it ended and the masses moved on to the next biggest thing. I don't have cable, and until recently no Internet at home. I ran and functioned off a massive data plan on my iPhone 5 and that was sufficient enough for me to do whatever research I wanted to, watch any video I wanted to watch, as long as it brought me some value. I refuse to watch any of these shows. Sure I've watched several episodes, and some have been entertaining.. if I had nothing else going in my life than to tune in every Sunday at 9. Here's my reasoning:

1- it's cheap entertainment. However which way you put it, tv shows are a means for vicarious living for a lot of people. It brings excitement, spontaneity and drama to lives that are lacking. But all of this is not authentic, because your subconscious remains aware how lacking your life has become, whether it voices that opinion or not will depend on whether you drown that voice or let it speak.

2- It adds no value to my life. What have I learned to do from 6 seasons of breaking bad? Very little. Now multiply 1 hour a week times 12 episodes per season times 5 seasons.. that's 60 hours you could've spent elsewhere, learning, bettering yourself and jumping on opportunities. They don't wait for you while you're finished watching tv. Every lost opportunity is gone forever.

Pickup-related 3- it sets me apart. When I first told an HB that I didn't know what Game of Thrones was and I had never seen an episode, she was shocked. I listened as she explained what the show was about, the different characters and how she tunes in every Sunday or whichever day it was on. I stood there, smiled and politely remarked that it wasn't for me. She insisted on showing me an episode, so we met up the following week at her place and we watched the show. She insisted on showing me her bedroom.

4- have interesting stories of what you're up to. If everyone is spending so much time watching this show, and you aren't, you need to be able to articulate what you've been doing all this time. And it better be a DHV. I picked up several tricks with my spare time, including learning palm reading. So when I get shit tested for not watching a popular show, I can explain "look this is what I've been learning"

5- every girl wants to change you. Rather than giving her a part of you to want to change, this is easy bait that is meaningless to you and that she will find challenging. Just like the story above, she wants to be the one who turned you onto something. It's also a neg that you can use for as long as you're seeing each other. Call her a couch potato, a tube baby, whatever. I give in every now and then, but remark that I'd rather be doing something more exciting.

Which leads us to your opportunity: 6- your opportunity to show her the same levels of excitement that she sees in a tv show. Sure I'm not asking you to sling a sword around town or cook meth, but you can definitely show her a bit of adventure and spontaneity. Get her heart pumping and get her out of her comfort zone, soon you will be the source of her emotions.

P.s. I am not a hippy.
