So, I recently went on a date, and honestly, I hadn’t really done my qualification properly. The girl was a bit dry - there wasn’t much energy coming from her, not a lot of engagement. It felt like one of those dates that could end up being pretty boring.

So, I’m sitting there, and she’s not bringing much fun energy. It’s a bit hard to get things going. And I know that in this situation, a lot of guys would start thinking, Oh, she’s not into me, or This is so boring. Then they’d start justifying it to themselves, saying, She’s not interesting enough for me - basically, trying to protect their ego.

But what I did was completely different. Instead of checking out, I just started saying funny stuff. And I don’t mean well-thought-out, rehearsed jokes - I mean completely random, off-the-top-of-my-head nonsense that made me laugh.

At one point, I looked at her jacket and went, Whoa, what kind of material is that? Silk? And then I just ran with it - Why are you wearing silk? Silk is ruining the world! You’re destroying the planet with your silk obsession! Just total nonsense. But in that moment, I found it funny, and because I was laughing, I naturally looked at her to see her reaction.

And guess what? She actually started laughing too. She got into the joke, relaxed a bit, and the whole energy of the date changed. We ended up having a great time - we even kissed. And this was a date I had basically written off at the beginning.

So, what’s the lesson here? Self-amusement is the key.

Most guys go into interactions waiting for the girl to give them a positive reaction. And if they don’t get it right away, they either check out or start trying to force the conversation. They’re dependent on her to make the interaction fun.

But here’s the thing - you have to be able to create that fun yourself. You need to be able to make yourself laugh, to enjoy the moment without waiting for external validation. Because your energy sets the tone. If you’re waiting for her to make things exciting, you’ve already lost.

I see this a lot with guys learning game. One of my students recently told me he saw me talking to a girl, and she wasn’t saying much - just standing there, kind of surprised. He said, Wow, she didn’t say anything! But then he realized... she also didn’t leave.

That’s huge. Most guys assume a girl has to be actively giving you positive verbal responses for things to be going well. But the fact that she’s still there, the fact that she showed up for the date in the first place - that’s already a positive sign. From there, your job is to lead and create the vibe.

And self-amusement is how you do that.

At a surface level, it makes the interaction fun. If you’re having fun, she’ll feel that energy and naturally start having fun too. But on a deeper level, it’s about being self-sufficient in your own enjoyment. You create your own humor, your own vibe, and she joins in - rather than you trying to chase her validation.

That’s how you stand out. That’s how you become the guy she remembers.

So, next time you’re in a conversation or on a date, self-amuse. Say stuff that makes YOU laugh. Obviously, calibrate to the environment - you don’t want to be cracking jokes at a funeral - but stop seeking her validation. Ironically, when you stop looking for approval, you actually get way better reactions.

Self-amusement is the key - to good dates, good conversations, and a great dating life.
