Probably a lot earlier than you did. Say you spend a half hour grinding and making out instead of an hour, then you get rejected and have more time leftover to meet someone else.
I wouldn't say there's a hard and fast rule but if you're feeling sexual energy then it's good to make a move to get her to leave.

I'm not a club game guy (not is my game based on doing samedays although I've done them when it was obvious the girl was down)...but based on other kinds of game:
There are several (4?) screening questions for same day lays. Google them. I know one has to do with how they got there (are they someones ride, can they leave alone). I think one has to do if they have to get up early in the morning. But look them up for sure. If the girl doesn't meet the screening questions, you can get her #, but move on to the next woman.
If they stop and leave, they aren't interested in that step or the next step. Some women are just looking to relieve sexual tension and then they have no reason to go home with you -- this is a reason I generally don't make out in bars although making out with them in front of people can show you aren't discreet. Push pull could help stop the tension form being relieved if you really need to make out with them in a venue.
Also, You don't have to even make out with a woman to get her home on the same day. That is my experience but I remember Nick Rogue (he was a same day coach) saying years ago he waited till he got them home to kiss them. He also talked about the discretion thing.
