I know for certain sometime in 2022 I'll be filing for divorce from my wife. She has monthly income, but no job. She makes almost exactly the same as me. We've almost been married 4 years now, but it'll be 4.5 by the time this goes down. As far as debt, I own my house prior to our marriage, and I am solely responsible for paying the mortgage. She has her own bank accounts, and I have my own. We have one mutual account that we transfer money into to pay the bills and common stuff. We each have our own personal credit cards, nothing shared. I pay mine off every month, but she has about $15,000 in debt on average. We each own our own car, prior to marriage, with no debt on either. Thinking ahead to the divorce conference, I'm not worried about alimony, but should I be? Am I on the hook for her CC debt? Is there anything I can do now to offset that, besides building up my own debt, and frivolously spending all my money so I have no liquid assets?
