How much is college a scam?

It's only a scam if you get a do nothing degree. You go into the sciences, engineering even medical you'll do well in life.

One benefit of staying in school is that if you do well in your coursework, you will gain enough expertise to be able to tutor STEM subjects on the side, which can take the edge off rough financial patches on the way to starting your business. Also, don't underestimate the value of networking with your fellow students. Since you're at a community college, quite a few of them will already be in the working world or may even have businesses of their own.

Get a trade. If you work your way up and become a lawyer/doctor it is worth it. Starting a business is tough, but I am so glad I did.

College is mostly a waste and will teach you very little.

That being said it is mandatory to get a good career now and even if you start your own business you'll have very little credibility without one.

Stay in school think of it as insurance. If you have a stem degree no matter what happens with your business you'll be fine financially.

Of course it would be easier to get hired if you were a woman......

An associates degree in physics, mathematics, AND 'puter sci?? Dude, you would be crazy to drop out! Stay in school and get that degree!! And the better your grades, the better your chances at landing something good when you graduate.

It seems like a bad investment in 2018 when you could be gambling on cryptocurrencies and then acquire some capital to open a business or (if super successful) then retire at a young age.

Whereas I started university before Bitcoin even existed so back then my only options were college or oil work.

My opinion is, college is worth it if you you major in one of the increasingly-rare fields where rationality and reality are still respected (physics, engineering, chemistry, etc).

I knew two (non-white PoC) females who graduated from an engineering school with civil engineering. One became a real estate agent, the other became some receptionist or desk job. And they graduated in the mid-1990s.

Good school and good degree is worth it. More money, better hours.
