About ten years ago I met a girl and we started dating. After a few weeks we went to a restaurant.

"Where do you want to sit?" she asked.

I pointed to a table right in front of us.

"No, we'll sit over there" she said and led us off to a corner.

"What do you want to eat?" she asked.

I mentioned sweet and sour pork and some other things.

"No, that's not good for you and will make you fat. I'll order this and this."

Later on we were talking and i mentioned I was saving for a house and planning to buy one five minutes away from where I worked, to minimize travel time.

"No, you should buy in my home town."

Now, the first few things had been mildly annoying, but this set alarm bells ringing. We weren't even officially bf & gf yet , let alone engaged - but she was telling me where i was going to buy my house! She was the manager at her workplace; looks like she wouldn't stop being a boss at home either.

After this date I thought about things for a week, then arranged to meet her and said "I'm sorry, but I think we should stop seeing each other"

"Why?"

"You're just too bossy."

She started crying and said "Yes, my mother and father say that too"

I felt like shit. If you've ever seen a woman crying after you said something like that...it's not a good feeling.

Anyway she wound up with someone else later....I saw them by accident one day at a bus stop. He was a little mouse of a man about 5'6" tall. At one stage I saw him get up from the bench (possibly to get something from the shop behind them) and she rapped out a peremptory command and he sat back down again quietly and quickly. Perhaps they'll be happy together.

Back then being married was still somehow worth it. Women would generally clean and cook and sexual revolution still had not reached its peak.

I have no proof, but I always suspected that the housewife of the 50's was just a myth. They've always been this way, now they're just off the chain.
