Mostly the #metoo stuff affects high status males in situations where the women have quite a bit to gain.

If you had kept your nose down and been utterly platonic I think you would have been ok.

You can't be sure with any job whether you'll just run into the same situation so it's not worth running all the time.

Just try to find a workplace with men only and you'll be right as rain. There are still a lot of industries that women wouldn't even touch if it meant their life. Pay can be pretty good too.

My advice is to learn a trade :)

Your first mistake was asking. Since you need the money, put the camera on, keep working, and look for another job. The worst they can do is fire you. It will make an interesting interview question in the future.

Are in a single person consent state/country/province? Then the employer has no fucking say. Even if it wasn't I would still have one. private institution have no was way overriding your safety and your rights.

If it is legal in your jurisdiction and there is no written policy prohibiting it, then wear a hidden camera without asking. They can't say you violated a policy if there is no written policy.. Some can peer through a button and are wearable. No one needs to know unless there is a false accusation.

If you get another job reasonably quickly and feel relieved, then you did the right thing for piece of mind. That is what you are questioning when you say 'did I do the right thing?'
