Forensic financial attorneys are really fucking good, so “hiding accounts” is ill advised. Of something gets found, the optics look really bad in divorce court. I had to pony up 7 years of financial records and my split was uncontested.

If I had to pick, I’d go with precious metals. Quality gold and silver are excellent retainers of actual value. And when the system collapses, they will be the only money worth something.

Ok, listen. Put all real estate in a trusted person's possession that will sign it all back over once the divorce is finalized. As in fully legally theirs. Now, he needs to not only sign up for, but attend AA and gamblers anonymous. He also needs to start seeing a therapist for "being depressed". For the cash, he needs to begin withdrawing it in increments. Some from the bank and more from a casino. He will actually need to play a few games at the casino for the receipts. Keep all casino receipts. Do this until all cash is out and made into physical assets such as metals. Or hide the cash at a trusted person's home. Now, when the divorce comes he can say he began getting depressed. He took to alcohol and gambling to fill the void and there's nothing left. Bring in therapist to back him up. Bring in meeting sign in records. Act all deviated in court. The point is to not make the court feel bad for him but to make the ex feel so disgusted with him that she wants absolutely nothing to do with him. Including money and assets. Also, for his work, if he's in real good with the boss he can get him in on it. Have the boss put him on "probationary evaluation" for "decreasing job performance". Or even have him "fired". This way the court can't even garner his wages bc he technically had none. Again, once the divorce is finalized he can get "rehired".

Couldn't you put your assets in an irrevocable trust?

Real estate, money, and houses all to be stewarded by you indefinitely, but belonging to the trust.

Yo draw no salary, make no money, but have access to the funds for survival needs like food and shelter and transportation only.
