The boys were all raised to think everyone is a winner (everybody gets a trophy) yet now they discover that's not true, and the girls were allowed to take attention whoring to a whole new level with social media, having access to the damn cell phone since grade school. Both were sold a bill of goods, and the bill is coming due.

It's gonna be a hell of a charge too.

A lack of hardship. Unless you fall flat on your face a few times in life (be it literally or figuratively) you'll be scared when some actual hardship heads your way. Such as student debt. Such as parents too old to take care of you, even when you're already in your thirties. Such as corporate life and the demands made on you by it.

'Adulting' is hard. It sadly, for many of them, was optional for a while. And that time is ending. You've got many 30 year old teenagers that are being forced to grow up in less then ideal conditions now. Glad I avoided that pitfall by hitting... well, I wouldn't say rock bottom, but... I went on my face pretty hard in my early 20s. You grow a bit more... heh... conservative in your outlook that way. You learn to plan ahead and play it safer.

As a millennial It's a confusing group . On one hand everyone is sold the bill of goods that we are all special and going to be successful ... No matter how inattentive, non-driven, or focused you are on polishing your individual talents.

I have so many friends who graduated from highschool or college and were just lost..... They teach you how to get through school but very rarely help you with the schools for functioning in the real world .

So lots of people in my age group when faced with real world competition and scenarios fold .

The lack of drive is the most interesting thing to me . My family is full of driven people . so the Lethargy and inability to steer ones self and have any sense of personal ownership baffles me . I know so many people just content to just sit and embrace whatever bullshit that comes there way whilst demanding better without putting an ounce of thought , energy , or attention into a better outcome.

Not all of us Millenials are awful but us and the generations following us seem to lack little drive or ability to actually take control of social situations or ourselves. it's problematic and as more people my age mature it's going to lead to a very challenging time because no one wants to be the leader but everyone wants to be paid like a leader.

Women are just men with tits at this point so every point doubled but with the saving grace of having a vagina.

I'm an older millennial, I think when people say millennials they refer to people much younger than myself. It's frustrating being grouped in with any person that is considered young. Even so I don't relate to a lot of people my age, I like to think I'm more of an old soul and independent thinker. I don't know, I think it's upbringing and social conditioning that effects the younger crowd. They need more guidance rather than hate being thrown their way.

I'm 40, from the 'Xennial' generation right before you guys. I've watched you all grow up. Cut yourselves some slack. Even though feminism was around when I was a kid, you guys got the brunt of it because your childhoods were right in the middle of the peak of 3rd wave feminism. Basically men of your generation were emotionally raised like latch key kids, while everything was focused trying to "empower" girls. So now millennial women have insane ego's, and millennial men are nihilistic. Your parents generation raised two genders that live in entirely different worlds.

Men got soft. Back then, there were wars happing all the time. And most men fought. Now there hasn’t been a major war like WWII or Vietnam where men were thrown at the front line in a long time. This toughen a lot of boys to men. This doesn’t happen anymore.

Also back then, once you were 18, you were kicked out of the house to fend for yourself. Most boys can’t even do that once they hit 18 today. They either go to college and get indoctrination with liberal bullshit, get massive in student loan debt and blame their problems on everyone else.

That is just a few things I see. There’s more.

We're all broken as a society and have been broken for quite some time, it's pointless imho, to try to point fingers on what people are doing now, or were doing 500, 100, 50 or whatever years ago. It's very scary to see some comments suggesting that we should have some sort of war or drastic natural selection to "straighten up" our course, while forgetting that 99% of those who die in wars are men.

I'd like to think that we're better than that, that we can use our critical thinking to figure out what's wrong and try to come up with different ideas on how to tackle a problem instead of pointing fingers. Of course that's me and that's how I go my own way.

Here's a good bit of irony - millennials are mostly children of boomers, they are who they are, because that's how their parents raised them. Now the said boomers are calling millennials "snowflakes", but really it's largely their fault, so they should go fuck themselves.

i think phones and social media fucked up a lot of kids of both genders, no one can get along. Everyone has zero patience for uncomfortable debate, critical thinking skills have been poisoned, everyone is scared to say something wrong so they live in perpetual fear and lash out, best offense is a good defense.

Not to mention apps/social media/video games have stunted their attention span, they cant delay gratification so they never develop any real skills that they find fulfilling and take pride in so they feel inferior.

I'm apparently right on the edge of the age group in that I came out before the berlin wall fell - my take:

"Right & Wrong" were taught (if they were actually taught) as moving targets - 'whatever you can get away with is acceptable' along with 'keep an eye on what we're going to look for to punish now'. Why stand for anything? Why would anyone teach you to stand for anything? Why endure hardship when the accomplishment will be taken from you on a whim of things beyond your control?

Before the end of the cold war, as bloated and partisan as it was "This is Right and That Is Wrong" were still at least recognised most people. Without an obvious evil to point at and say "Don't be them", low grade hedonsim snuck in since there's no reason to hold back besides the law which if you can dodge, won't hurt you.

GoingYOW with a clear "This is right and that is wrong" is (amongst a great many other things) an antigen to unrestrained hedonism - which is important since most of us find that without the financial leeches, we have the means to do wtfever we want.

You can do pretty much anything, what do you know to be good and worth doing?

You know I am a Gen X'r, I grew up in a very different world from today, I do not like where our society is heading one damn bit, but one thing I do know, blaming millennials or boomers or any one group is stupid, we got to the position we are in together, we all collectively are responsible for the society we live in.

Millennials are growing up in a strange time, but millennials are people just like everyone else and we are not any better than them, had we grown up under the same circumstances as them we probably would have turned out exactly like them, instead of bitching about them lets offer them a hand up maybe? I personally don't want to live in a world where everyone just shits on each other. Lets not blame everyone else for our problems, lets look at our problems realistically and face them head on.

I see one of the biggest problems in society right now being isolation, technology while connecting us in some ways , it has also isolated us in ways that are in my opinion driving a wedge between people, we have our "tribes" and god forbid you go against the tribe. I don't blame Millennials for any of the worlds problems, they are just a symptom of the real issues facing us, maybe put down the phones and keyboards and go outside (that is the place where the sun shines during the day) and actually try conversing with people in real life (that is where you talk to people without the aid of an app)
