Probably a duplicate of several duplicates already, but man, the more I think about alimony and the whole discussion around being forced to accept her choice, regardless of what it is...it just doesn't sit right with me.

Whether you want to be a parent and she wants an abortion, you have no say (apparently some places are different, but by and large the standard is not). Similarly, if you don't want children but she wants to keep it, there's 18 years of your life tied to these people. It just doesn't seem particularly balanced to me. Worse still, I hear horror stories where fathers find out the kid(s) aren't theirs, but, because they signed the birth certificate at the time (under the premise/assumption the kids were theirs), they're still forced to pay. Also, more often than not, I've heard of girls intentionally calling pregnant and celebrating "locking him down"...and courts all too happily eat it all up.

Don't get me wrong, I get the logistics of carrying the child and bringing it into this world, but I feel this liability conversation is a very dated practice.

Also, full disclosure, this post is about education. I wish to be educated with different points of view or opposing (constructive) views that may shift my perception (or reinforce it).

Trigger warning I lost a friend to suicide as a result of being powerless with bills because the girl swore she was on birth control, but openly admitted (even celebrated and danced apparently) in court that she lied to get pregnant, with absolutely zero consequence in said courtroom. It always seems to be the man's fault...so as you can imagine, the topic is something of a trigger.
