I get that this isn’t the most important victim of accusation dogpiling we could be talking about and as a formerly pretty successful public figure I’m sure he’ll be fine, at least financially. However, this entire situation is still infuriating to watch every time I hear about it. Long story short, two years ago YouTuber Wilbur Soot was accused by his ex partner Shelby Grace of sexual battery on a twitch stream, and ever since then the internet has been dogpiling on him, tearing apart his career in the process.

So, to list few things that are fucked up about this situation just on the face of it.

  1. Instead of going to the police and pursuing legal action (initially), Grace decided to publicly accuse him on her twitch channel and followed it up with more accusations on her twitter, all of which brought a incredible amount of attention and support to her (previously unsuccessful) live streaming career.

  2. She provided no substantiating evidence.

  3. She is the only person to date to have made any accusations of the kind against the YouTuber.

Nevertheless, the internet, like the internet does, saw these unsubstantiated claims as all they needed to justify a harassment campaign which drove him off the internet and led him to stop posting on his channel of over 5.4 million subscribers.

It just frightens me every time I see something like this happen because it makes me realize just how eager people are to tare down a successful man and how little of an excuse they need to do it. And if this can happen to a public figure like this, what does that mean for the rest of us?

Anyway the only reason I brought this up is because he just posted an update video on his channel and judging by how toxic the comments are it seems like he needs some support. Not telling anyone to start flamewars or anything, but if you’re interested in liking the video it’s on his channel @WilburPlays

Remember guys, in our world, men are guilty until proven innocent, and sometimes they’re still guilty even then. Stay safe out there <3
