I was recently made redundant from work and was looking at trying to reskill into a trade. The local college runs a bunch of "introduction to x" evening courses for adults, but you don't get any qualifications for them, have to pay a reasonable fee, and you don't really go that far and learn much based on the one I attended last year.
My girlfriend was also looking at courses and noticed they do a comprehensive "women in construction" course that is a part time evening course for female adults, is free, and is more comprehensive and bestows some sort of qualification. They do not do a similar course at all for men, and worse - this course seems to be scheduled constantly whereas the other unisex courses similar to the one I took last year don't appear to have ran at all for the past six months.
I actually emailed them asking if they do a similar course but for men as well along with some other questions about why it's male-exclusive and got a snotty and dismissive response that didn't even address the most important questions I asked.
I'm obviously a bit pissed about this because of the fact other courses aren't running or available and whatnot, but how is this justified? Why do women need a "safe space" for men in a learning environment? Presumably if they went further they would have to work with men in such an environment at some point in the future anyway.
Is this just blatant misandry or am I going nuts?
