Men's Rights supporters whom are male will often be faced with an accusation typically lobbed by feminists and other Social Justice types: "you're afraid of women!"

Upon reflection, I think that this accusation (like a distressing amount of Radical Second Wave and Third Wave Feminism) is actually an example of hypocritical gender-traditionalism. Allow me to explain:

The format of the accusation is that the accusation is always directed at men, and the message behind it is simple: it is wrong for a man to be afraid of women. It goes beyond "wrong" though - it is characterized (implicitly) as laughable and pathetic and pitiful for a man to be afraid of women.

How is this gender-traditionalism? Simple: traditional gender roles see women as objects, and thus harmless and passive and weak (and implicitly innocent). Women can't hurt a fly, allegedly. Men, on the other hand, being the gender of strength and agency, should ideally not be afraid of anything... let alone something as non-threatening as a woman.

Ergo, a man who is (allegedly) afraid of women is (allegedly) violating his gender role, by 1) giving into fear (which is bad, since Real Men Are Brave), and 2) fearing something which, according to gender traditionalism, is weaker and less competent and less threatening than he is. He is thus pathetic, pitiful and laughable and not a Real Man.

And of course, by being premised on the gender system's view of women as objects, the "afraid of women" accusation perpetuates the gender system's oppression of women. This means that those anti-Men's-Rights persons who use this insult are implicitly supporting the misogyny they claim to oppose.

As such, if you are a male who supports men's rights, when people accuse you of being "afraid of women" they are buying wholesale into the gender system. For all the claims of anti-men's-rights types to oppose gender traditionalism, they seem more than happy to be a part of the problem.
