Comedian Nick Davison, well known for his appearances on TVL and Brett's Turn, has issued an apology for statements he made in an interview last month.

In April, Davison spoke to Flash magazine concerning unequal treatment of men and women in the justice system. When asked if he personally had ever been treated unfairly, Davison replied, "Yes! Absolutely! About ten years ago, I was doing a show with a young lady, her name was Rachel Davenport. Well of course, we had a few drinks during the show, so by the end we were pretty hammered. We went up to her room and had a little fun, and everything was good.

A few days later, people started coming up to me accusing me of raping her. I was like, 'Excuse me?! What?'

It was awful, nobody believed me when I said it was consensual. I was questioned by the police, people kept giving me nasty looks, and several venues vowed not to work with me again.

And for the first time I realized, 'Wow, I'm being discriminated against because I'm a man. What a world we live in."

After being deluged with phone calls and Facebook messages, Rachel Davenport posted a response on Facebook, "WTF Nick???? I don't know where the hell this story came from, but you know damn well it's untrue! Yes, we had drunken sex one night. Yes, the next day I said to my best friend that I wished I hadn't done that, BECAUSE I HAD A BOYFRIEND! I never accused you of anything and I certainly never called the police!"

Today Davison responded, "I got it wrong. You know, I was doing this interview about Men's Rights, and they asked me if I'd ever felt discriminated against for being a man, and I remembered this situation and tried to make it fit. The way her friend spoke to me certainly made me feel like accusations had been made. I told the story as I remembered it, and I guess I got it wrong. Rachel is a sweet girl, and I know she would never make up a rape."

He further elaborated, "My biggest regret is that I attached Rachel's name to this. I should have left her as a nameless figure in the story and left it at that. I'm sorry I brought your name into this, Rachel."

He later tweeted, "To the maniacs that want to use this as a chit against men's rights, I ask that you please don't. Because that would be super shitty. False rape accusations are a real issue, so leave their validity out of this!"

  1. The above is satire and is meant to encourage discussion by creating a gender flip of the Sarah Silverman situation that blew up a couple months ago. Still think Nick is as much of an asshole as Sarah? Guess what? You're not sexist!

  2. This is a throwaway account. I have a main that I frequently post on, but I'd prefer not to have my entire comment history downvoted when the inevitable /r/Feminism brigade finds this post.

  3. While Men's Rights activists often say that the wage gap does not exist (and back this up with statistics), Feminists are quick to say that false rape accusations don't happen. Think about that last line, and considering the gender flip, would Feminists be just as willing to leave this be, as Sarah Silverman requested, or would the fictional Nick Davison become the poster boy for making up issues?
