The Advertising Standards Authority received 378 complaints that the Protein World poster implied other body shapes were inferior.

Lol, they ARE inferior. Ask any doctor what the health risks associated with obesity are.

That line got me a good laugh. I don't mind if someone chooses to live an unhealthy lifestyle and balloon but how dare someone even suggest that there's nothing wrong with it. You're killing yourself, being a burden on your body and those around you. The truth hurts, change or accept the choices you made. I think that's reasonable.

You make it sound like there's no middle ground between skinny bikini body (and she is skinny, you can see her rib cage) and obese. The point the complaints were making was that women of normal-shape (or anything in between skinny and obese) feel like they don't have a 'beach body' unless they are skinny, which can be potentially damaging in terms of body image.

"This poster hurts my feelings" doesn't really sound like a good reason for censorship to me. Proteinworld sells weight loss and muscle building supplements. Why on earth would they put a picture of an "average looking" Brit woman in their advertising? The average Brit woman is overweight. This woman is hot. This is the entire point.

GOOD! I'm waiting for arrests to be made to the savage animals that destroyed and defaced those ads. Those are criminal acts.

Well except the male adverts, they were conveniently left alone.

Sounds like these people are saying this model's body is inherently offensive.

What connection to Mens' Rights?

[–]jimmybrite 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The original story has been posted on here.

This one links to a Sargon of Akkad video.

I'm familiar with the drama, but unless I missed an aspect, they were wailing and gnashing their teeth about "Fat shaming". It sounds like there's a link I'm missing.

Good question, as of yet unanswered.

And in the mean time, they got MILLIONS worth of free advertising from the media storm.
