Don't take another person's word for it whether or not you are the father. Instead, get or ask for a paternity test.

It's amazing this isn't taught in "comprehensive" sex education but since schools are a matriarchal cesspool, it's expected that they conspire to keeps boys in a state of ignorance.

Well, school sex ed told ME that getting pregnant meant having a baby and either raising it or giving it up for adoption, which was a pretty serious lie that I might have believed if my parents weren't responsible adults. They wouldn't even tell us where we could get birth control. Years later, when I wanted some, damn if the clinic wasn't literally walking distance from the junior high school where my science teacher had pretended abortion didn't exist. You'd think a "matriarchal cesspool" would do better by schoolgirls.

Yeah when was that?

Forty years ago?

(... also note at that time, nobody falsely claimed that you were being taught "comprehensive" sex education. At that time, it was accepted that your parents were to provide whatever information that wasn't covered for whatever reason. Which they did.)

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Twenty years ago, actually, when "comprehensive sex education" was far more common because the Jeebus freaks had not yet infested school boards and state legislatures outside of the Bible Belt. I have lived to see sex ed and access to reproductive health care get WORSE. It boggles the mind.

[–]TheDude41 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Frankly, I don't know what you are talking about. There has never been comprehensive sex education anywhere on the planet, at least for men.

[–]chavelah 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Nothing is ever perfect, but sex education used to be better than it currently is in most of America.

Should sex ed include a discussion of the legal ramifications of paternity and the Iegal steps boys can take to protect themselves from paternity fraud? I think so. I think students of both sexes also need to be informed of their legal right to refuse an adoption. But for crying out loud, they aren't even teaching the biology part correctly anymore. I shudder to think what they'd do with the legal part.

Well, it's one thing to not teach sex ed at schools and leave it for parents, peers, news and the internet to educate people - not like kids can't figure out where to get an abortion of birth control pills these days (it's in the news every other day). It being the case that much of this is already widely known and discussed by young adults, what is taught unfortunately serves no useful purpose other than indoctrination, frankly.

In contrast, it takes a different level of douchebaggery for a group of teachers to proclaim that they teach something called "comprehensive sex education" in schools, and then intentionally leave out or pooh-pooh 90% of what boys and men want to know. Meanwhile, heavily censor and chastise the press for giving coverage on most all issues of importance to men (paternity testing, paternity fraud, child custody, domestic violence committed by females, false allegations of rape, frequent exonerations of the falsely imprisoned), leaving men & boys intentionally lied to & ignorant.

At that point, it would be better to teach kids nothing at all -- simply say out loud it's too controversial for the public school environment -- and instead leave young people to pursue information on their own based on what is important to them.

It's much the same as the so-called "well rounded" public school education that leaves kids intentionally ignorant of 90% of what makes the world go round, yet feeds the lie that this type of education leaves them knowing a lot... when nothing could be further from the truth.

Well, we homeschool for a reason.

But the teens and young adults I work with, who have come up through the public school system, honest to God do NOT know how to access contraception and abortion services. They've got cell phones. They've got Internet access at school always, and at home usually. The sex ed curriculum in my state is "abstinence-oriented," which I'm sure doesn't help... but I used the goddammed Yellow Pages to find the clinic when I wanted to go on birth control, you'd think somebody with access to Google figure out where to go. I really do think that evangelical culture is to blame for this. Lying and sneaking are so deeply entrenched in everyday life, of course teens think way to deal with sex is to practice maximum denial.

... needless to say, the young fathers don't know anything about their legal rights and responsibilities. They usually DO know to ask for a paternity test, so that information has percolated down to street level, and the judge will order one anyhow if the parents aren't married - but when the test comes back positive (and I've never worked a case where it didn't), then the guys get discover their 18 year bill and the fact that they'll only see their child on sufferance unless they open up a new court case to establish custodial rights. It's a shit show.

Can't find out how to access, or haven't done so or do not want to? Three different things.

https://www.google.com/#q=abortion+services

https://www.google.com/#q=condoms

https://www.google.com/#q=contraception

The sex ed curriculum in my state is "abstinence-oriented,"

Yes, but that is truth in advertising. If you're not abstinent, get your information elsewhere. Lowest common denominator education. If you wish to find out more, find out elsewhere. "Comprehensive sex education" as it is on the other hand, is just a big lie.

and the judge will order one anyhow if the parents aren't married

Since when and where? In what state? I doubt it. What does marriage have to do with paternity testing? Except nothing.

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my state, when the parents are unmarried and either the woman or the welfare folks are seeking a support order from a putative father, the judge orders a paternity test even when the putative father does not appear and/or does not request a test. This is one thing my state does right. It's ridiculous that such things vary so much within a single nation.

As to why I have an endless parade of pregnant young women and baby daddies who seem sincerely chagrined to be parents, I can't tell you why. If I knew the answer I'd provide it. They even seem to realize that teen parenthood and welfare are dead ends. My working assumption is that it has something to do with terrible parenting.

You are right about this. Girls in most places in the U.S. get a thorough and comprehensive sex education down to the smallest detail where boys are only given a cursory view. Most of the sex ed boys get is about their "responsibilities as a man."

[–]TheDude41 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Comprehensive sex education for boys currently leaves them with virtually no useful information, and virtually no perspective for what awaits them as sexually active adults.

Worse, it leaves them with the false impression ("comprehensive") that they actually know something, when they don't.

... mostly just a bunch of chivalrist horsecrap lectured down their throats for several hours. Then you end up with a bunch of boys who falsely think they actually know something, who actually don't. It's 50% outright lies and 90% lies of omission. That's it.

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

My question is, was the legal father lied to? They were having trouble conceiving, she ends up pregnant... it wouldn't be the first time an infertile couple has tried to solve their problem this way.

If there is a fraud case here, it should be the legal father against the mother. The biological father knowingly had unprotected sex, knew that his sexual partner became pregnant and had a child, and then did not pursue his paternity claim for eight years. Honestly, fuck that guy. If you don't pursue a paternity claim because it's more important to hide your adultery from your wife, you don't get to change your mind eight years later. But the husband who's been raising the kid? He should be able to sue his (presumably ex) wife for fraud.

[–]roharareddit[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Irregardless of how the child was conceived the guy is still the child's father.

So lets say that the couple knowingly decided to have the wife go and fuck someone else to get pregnant. Did not both husband and wife take part in the deception? If that is the case then fuck them! Not the biological father.

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If the biological father could reasonably claim that the possibility of paternity was concealed from him, I'd agree with you. But by his own admission, he repeatedly had sex with the woman without using condoms in the appropriate time frame, and was aware of her pregnancy at the time it occured. He had all the information a reasonable person requires to conclude that they might have sired a child.

[–]roharareddit[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If the biological father could reasonably claim that the possibility of paternity was concealed from him, I'd agree with you.

He had no legal rights to the kid and the child did not live with him. What was he going to do? Break in to their house and obtain a DNA sample while everyone was sleeping?

But by his own admission, he repeatedly had sex with the woman without using condoms in the appropriate time frame, and was aware of her pregnancy at the time it occured.

Did this woman not have sex?

He had all the information a reasonable person requires to conclude that they might have sired a child.

He did suspect that he may be the father and asked the mother who lied to him about it.

So lets get this all straight:

They both had unprotected sex.

She lied to him and almost definitely her husband about the paternity of the child.

Now the truth has been outed years after the fact and this guy still doesn't have any rights over his biological child because of a crooked system that the mother played like a flute.

You seem to think that this guy had an adiquate amount of control over what was going on when he clearly didn't. Not sure why you feel that way unless you are infected with the idea, as so many people are, that this guy was just a flop who had fun with his dirty little penis and therefor should not have any rights or say in the matter.

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If he wanted a paternity test, he should have gone to court. I have great sympathy for men who never know that they might well have sired a child, because they were lied to about birth control or because the woman disappears from their life before her pregnancy is apparent. This case does not meet either of those criteria.

[–]blueoak9 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My question is, was the legal father lied to?

Yes. Her silence on the matter was a lie. her failure to get the child DNA tested compounded that lie. She should be in prison for a very long time. The damage she has done to three people is incalculable.
