" Title IX was not set up to deal with a reverse in gender."

Was set up to be sexist you mean?

"“I have never seen a case like this.”"

Sure you have, countless young men have been expelled months after the fact with no real evidence suppourting their claims.

It’s not that these cases don’t occur – men account for around 17% of sexual victimizations of students, and survey data collected by the Association of American Universities shows that many of these men were assaulted by women. Men are much less likely to report sexual assaults to legal or university authorities than women, though they will report them on anonymous surveys.

Give credit when due however "men don't report" and men only go 17% of all cases go hand in hand.

All these factors make staying unbiased in cases like Rose’s “really difficult"

ok, ok pussy pass and all that thank you for acknowledging

Rose, who asked to be identified by her middle name, is now 21.

It is cool t shame guys I suppose? why protect her and not other men as well/s

but said she was rejected because their public safety board said her disciplinary record was “a risk.

Same thing countless men have faced?

because his friends were making fun of him for sleeping with me,” because, she said, “I am short and overweight.” She filed a counterclaim with the same office and the result of the full investigation was her expulsion.

way to fail to mention that the counter claim was a "Rape" claim right back.

"The OEO and the OSSA interviewed the male student, three of his friends who were witnesses, and Rose. Rose provided transcripts of text messages from that night and records of building entry card swipes to back up her timeline."

Hmm decent reporting and presentation of the fact to a point, why not show the transcripts buzzfeed? You were willing to show the schools decision and reasoning. Why do you not treat every mens case the same as poor rose's?/s

the male student drank nearly a fifth of Fireball whiskey and some vodka and beer

so he was unable to consent?

n the days afterward, floormates teased and “joked” with the male student about sleeping with Rose, students told the OEO, often within Rose’s earshot. Some wrote, “Pray for [male student], [male student] was taken advantage of,” on the whiteboards outside their doors, the witnesses added. Eventually, a resident adviser caught wind.

so this gets nice big and bold lettering but " “You could get in trouble for this, this could be considered rape.” Rose said Student C helped put her to bed."

does not?

it’s unclear whether he accepted.

Cute way of saying you do not know.

the WSU Sexual Assault Policy recommends this “to support and protect the complainant.

ohh heaven forbid that this policy be enforced equally.

student accused of sexual assault filing a counter sexual assault claim in the school or on a federal level is relatively common

please provide some evidence to back that bullshit up please

though they are usually filed by men accused of sexual assault and are often dismissed

Translation: "Men are less important then women"

based on the accounts of the male students’ friends.

ohh neat lets invoke the ole boys club sterotype

the OEO dismissed the texts as evidence, saying that though “the messages support [Rose]’s assertion that she was intoxicated … it is not clear how the timing of the text messages corresponds to the timing of the events of that evening.”

A semi-valid point by the school?

The investigation lasted from the beginning of the second semester to the end of the school year. Because of this, Rose was kicked off her study abroad trip to England at the last minute and was forced to tell her parents why.

OHHH GOD THAT POOR VICTIM COULD YOU IMAGINE IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE REGULAR TO ANOTHER GENDER!?

She chose not to take individual legal action against the school, she said, because she doesn’t want her name associated with the case online.

Translation: She knew she would not win and her lawyer told her so. These cases are won all the time so there must have been some damning evidence against her to not go forward with the suit.

All in All switch the name Rose with John and you have everything that is wrong with the kangaroo court system. Rape is a crime and should be handled by the police.

Buzzfeed did its damnedest to make rose out to be a victim of unfair punishment but left out facts and refused to make the easy connection between what rose is experiencing and what thousands of young men experience every year.

That's a pretty good assessment.

I feel bad for her (right up until she filed the counterclaim) but we need more cases like this before people will realize what's wrong with campus "justice."

[–]SporkTornado 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree, it will take a lot more cases like this for society to stick up for the accused. Because as I noticed in other cases. Society gives no fucks about men's problems. They only start caring when those problems start to spill over and effect women.

[–]failbus 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. The draft is the most recent example. Alimony is another.

[–]NUMBERS2357 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She was unfairly railroaded. It sounds like the guy wasn't drunk enough that he couldn't have stopped it, and he wasn't overpowered or threatened. He just felt social pressure to go through with something he didn't want to; and he regretted it later. But this wasn't rape, the same way it's not rape when the genders are reversed.

[–]Faryshta[S] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

your point is very valid. all rape and any other criminal accusation should be investigated by police only.

this is mostly to point the double standard that when the same happens to women as the accused the media makes him into a horrible monster.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

But, “if the victim truly believed it to be nonconsensual [sex],” Bruno said, “then expelling her was the right decision.

All about the victim's subjective beliefs.

That's the sentence that most disturbed me

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is because it is two separate, but related ideas crammed together. Hence the reason the author should have employed the semi-colon.

Title IX — the federal gender equality law under which most college sexual assault cases are considered — was created to protect women from discrimination.

So, not protect men as well? For God's sake. Check your facts.

[–]SilencingNarrative 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think that's another admission that title ix ajudication typically presumes the man to be guilty, and therefore it seems wrong to the author that it should apply to female on male assault.

[–]DougDante 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Buzzfeed is reporting their feels, which have no basis in reality, rather than the facts:

FTA:

Title IX — the federal gender equality law under which most college sexual assault cases are considered — was created to protect women from discrimination. University Title IX offices infrequently face cases of alleged female-on-male sexual assault, which experts said means there are few, if any, precedents for how to investigate a case like Rose’s. Title IX was not set up to deal with a reverse in gender.

From actual resources:

Title IX — the federal gender equality law under which most college sexual assault cases are considered — was created to protect women from discrimination. .. Title IX was not set up to deal with a reverse in gender.

  1. Title IX does not apply to female students only. Title IX protects any person from sex-based discrimination, regardless of their real or perceived sex, gender identity, and/or gender expression. Female, male, and gender non-conforming students, faculty, and staff are protected from any sex-based discrimination, harassment or violence.

http://knowyourix.org/title-ix/title-ix-the-basics/

Then again, the US Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights appears to have a pattern or practice of illegally discriminating against male victims of sexism, despite their repeated words acknowledging they are protected under the law:

Action Opportunity: Reject Racially Segregationist Campus Speech Nannies: Boys and Men Especially Impacted

https://redd.it/4euyzu

So Buzzfeed is sort of right, by way of organized crime.

I remember reading a story a number of months ago about a woman who was the family breadwinner, her husband who was a stay-at-home dad cheated on her, and she was forced to hand over half her assets plus custody of the children despite her husband being the one who fucked up their marriage.

You know, the kind of story you hear significantly more often with the genders flipped.

I felt it was horrible that the woman was having to go through this, but also noted that it's so rare to see similar sympathy given towards men in the same situation. Surely both genders are equally deserving of sympathy in such an unfair situation.

I feel exactly the same about this story. A university/college should not have the power to brand someone a rapist and expel them based on a 'preponderance of evidence' standard, rather than 'beyond reasonable doubt'. At a hearing where your lawyer may be prevented from speaking on your behalf, where questions you have submitted to be asked of the accuser/witnesses may be ignored, where you may not even be able to appeal a false verdict. This is bullshit regardless of the gender of the accused, and always will be.

Leave rape accusations to be dealt with by real courts, for fuck's sake.

[–]bufedad 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The best thing about this, is that almost all of the comments I read were excoriating BF for blaming the victim.

[–]ARedthorn 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So, if a guy is sexually assaulted:

If she's good looking, we should be so lucky. If she's not good looking, we're the problem.

[–]MeEvilBob 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What if he's gay, asexual, married or just plain not interested in her?

[–]ARedthorn 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. It just seems like society and the media doesn't care. If she's good looking, they call male victims lucky... If she's not good looking, now they say he's being pressured into regretting it.

[–]Electroverted 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was created to protect both genders. Stop making shit up.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with her the only reason he reported it was cause she's fat. What a cry baby. So you fucked a swamp beast. No excuse to act like a feminist and try and withdraw consent after the fact. Fuck off with this shit.
