I have a few questions.

This article makes clear a "hot dude" can proposition women crudely and receive a positive response:
https://thoughtcatalog.com/clint-conway/2017/03/this-guy-made-a-fake-tinder-profile-to-prove-that-girls-never-think-hot-dudes-are-creepy/

Other men, however, are creepy for doing the same thing.

Some of Weinstein's antics are outrageous because perceived as coercive. But how much of the outrage is fed by the idea that it is creepy for an old, fat, ugly male to proposition a female?

But a female propositioning a male is usually called empowered, confident of her sexuality, etc. So isn't some of the outrage against a male sexist?

And isn't rejecting him for being old ageist?

And isn't rejecting him for being ugly lookist?

And isn't criticising him for excessive libido and excessive propositioning, a form of slut-shaming?

How come there are one set of rules for women and another for men?

He is using his position to be coercive. Are you saying that it is only percieved to be coercive, and is not actually overly coercive? He also did it to people (person?) who are not adults. He knows what he's doing is coercive.

He should also take a hint, but he's not at all wired like that. I feel that lots of the outrage is sexist especially if it's coming from the main stream media. I think Tinder might exaggerate some of these sad truths.

Edit: it's sexist because this story has blown up whereas Corey Feldman, Elijah Wood, Todd Bridges (Different Strokes). Even now it's not talked about (young kids being sexualy assaulted).

Jesus, yet another misandrist piece of shit, unable to understand the concept of scrutinising sensationalist accusations and avoiding rush to judgment.

  • I used "perceived" to accurately and neutrally convey the accusations without entering into the issues of doubts or proofs. Yet you want to focus on the one word to the exclusion of the rest of my points.

  • In point of fact, the accusations remain unproven; in most cases, the accuser and Weinstein were alone. It remains to be seen whether the legal processes will adduce proof.

  • Weinstein's was only one studio in a competitive field. It is questionable whether Weinstein could affect whether an actress were hired by a competing studio.

  • Your pedophile accusation is likely fabrication. His type seemed to be young, pretty adult actresses. The youngest prominent accuser is Beckinsale, who says she was 17 at the time of the incident. But much of the world considers 14 the age of consent (China, Latin America, Japan, a number of European countries), and much of the USA considers 16 the age of consent. In fact, in some US jurisdictions, a criminal offender at 17 is charged as an adult, both in practice and in statute. So, for the purpose of Harvey's propositions, Beckinsale at 17 was certainly an adult.

Few men will have been asked to massage a fat, hairy, Hollywood Leftie

I read this statement several times because it just seemed wrong somehow and it took a while to figure out WHY.

Because it should read

Very Very Very few people will have been asked to massage a fat, hairy, Hollywood Leftie.

Sure one is too many, but even if he is the worst man on earth. The number of people he assaulted is extremely small. I see so many women saying "We" and "I" as though they were assaulted by this guy.

Oh, I thought it was because, in the light of Terry Crews' experience, it's pretty likely this is happening to men in Hollywood as well.

[–]Mode1961 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It might be but that doesn't change the fact it is happening to very very very few people.

My perception is that quite a bit of male to female sexual harassment in the workplace went away by the 90s (USA). So in the general population there might be a small percentage of victims. But Hollywood is a lot of money and influence. They influence our culture and politics. We all support them with our dollars. It's a big deal. Look at casting calls, the lines are huge. Kids are vulnerable. I think that there are plenty of victims - just not all female.

I'm a lefty, but I always thought Hollywood is shit.

[–]momandpopheir 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It happens worse to young kids - including boys.

The way most people learn empathy is by placing themselves, mentally, in someone else's shoes. As Adam Smith wrote in his "Theory of Moral Sentiments," we extrapolate outwards: Our imaginative sympathy starts with someone we know and expands into a general sympathy with strangers.

The doublethink of feminism is a demand that men sympathize with women without any reciprocal sympathy because "MALE PRIVILEGE!"

Few men will have been asked to massage a fat, hairy, Hollywood Leftie.

That doesn't mean that they're indifferent to women they haven't met. On the contrary, it's how they step out of their own perspective. In much the same way, lots of women will discuss, say, education policy by saying "As a mom, I want X."

Oh, they think it does give them moral authority. Unearned, undeserved moral authority to shut up anyone who disagrees with them.

The curse of our age is that it elevates the moralistic (holding the right opinions) over the moral (doing the right thing).

But to feminists, complaining loudly is doing the right thing. And that's the problem.

Yet, there has been an equivalent hypocrisy on the Right. If you now rail against Weinstein, but said nothing about some of the sexual shenanigans at Fox, you might want to ask yourself what the difference is.

It's the same thing and it's not an outrage. Men with power invited women to whore themselves out for money and fame, and wouldn't you know it? WOMEN ACTUALLY SHOWED UP TO WHORE THEMSELVES OUT FOR MONEY AND FAME!

[–]Ogg66 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminist don't have empathy, look at they way they talk about women who disagree with them "Gender Traitors" very nasty and fascistic. What they do is work any situation they can to weaponise in their hate of those that won't agree with them. Its not a position of not caring if men suffer, they do not give a thought if a woman suffers due to their actions or another persons actions if it can't be used to beat others with. Now there will be some but not many that will show some care of all others but they tend to look and act like bullies.

I'll drop "As a father" from my comments as soon as women drop "As a Mother" from theirs.
