I'm a woman that's just visiting this subreddit out of curiosity so keep in mind that I'm not one you gentlemen. I don't think hitting a man out of rage is ever a good idea as you should never escalate things into violence but just remember that there is usually a very big difference in physical strength between male and female partners.

I've never really seen a case of a man having been beaten by his wife to the point of almost dying, but the opposite is always shown in the media. Once I stayed in an apartment below an abusive couple (the man constantly beat the shit out of his wife and the police could do nothing because she was loyal to this man for whatever reason and would never admit what was going on - I called 911 and nothing happened to my knowledge) and one night it sounded like she even overpowered him probably by beating him over the head or something, but that was the exception.

My point is men don't seem to be physically unable to defend themselves and also don't usually show the inability to leave their women psychologically when this sort of incident occurs. If you show a good argument against my conclusion, I'll listen, but for now, I can see why people are more sympathetic towards women in domestic disputes.
