So recently on the Tumblr in action post, someone posted about the Judicial Court of Victoria's Website about how it basically blamed men for all instances of family violence, i went to check it out and...oh boy, if you're Australian, i recommend you to do the same, my favourite would have to be in 'determining whether a man is a victim' quoted here:

Were you at fault, in any way in causing her violence? This question serves two purposes. First, to assess whether he did anything that caused her to act in self-defence, or to retaliate. Second, people who are genuinely the victims often excuse the perpetrator to some degree and blame themselves for the violence.

It has a huge section on men, nothing on women. Nothing about women being more likely to kill their biological children (particularly their sons either). (Link to that)

Digging a little deeper into the same sex section had this on the 'myths of same sex family violence':

lesbian women do not engage in violent abuse against their partners because women are not violent

lesbian battering only occurs in sado masochistic or butch/femme relationships

a batterer must be physically bigger than the party abused

men are never victims of family violence – it isn’t violence when gay men fight, its a case of ‘boys being boys’

And fears that same sex victims would have:

the violence would not be taken seriously because a man was not involved (for women in lesbian relationships

Yet despite things being quite reasonable on the LGBTQ side, none of these rules will apparently matter when it comes to heterosexual relationships.

Further on, i decide to investigate the 'Men who are victims' subsection, which basically is to pass the buck to other services. The FIRST suggestion it has is the 'Men’s Referral Service (which has a database of services for both users and victims of family violence)'. This ultimately sends you to This Website:

Huh, okay, sounds okay, the conference is a bit one sided but maybe they have multiple. So, lets check how they inform people about this issue under 'about family violence'.

Aaand theres the other shoe.

This is the first option presented, government websites link to this. Both of these websites are saying its either extremely unlikely that a man is a victim and he must be lying or the first resource that is meant to help men who are victims is....shit for doing that very thing.

Were I a victim of such, this would not fill me with any confidence.

I never noticed all these things growing up, but now, i can say with fair confidence... Victoria is very anti-male, from spending millions on ads about the gender pay gap, to these websites who are being paid to peddle horseshit and i can only wonder...

What went wrong?
