I think the message is really "don't wear a mustache", as the guy is clearly wearing a mustache. But seriously, mustaches can make anyone look creepy, that's why all the bad guys in movies have them.

The cultivation of facial hair is an ages old masculine tradition. I prefer the more urban modern look, but i can hardly fault a man who wishes to grow a glorious Burt Reynolds stache, or a man who takes time out of his social life to grow an epic beard of snow white.
I always just assume that clean faced men are made to be that way by employers, or by genetics. What grown man would willingly live his life with his face devoid of ubermasculine facial hair? Its like having a second cock, but to display on your face.

Does this really represent anybody's real life experience? I've never noticed any suspicion when I've taken an interest in people's children. When I've offered to look after people's kids they've been extremely grateful. I've been in a stepfather-ish role twice and, although that's actually made me statistically relatively likely to abuse my partners' kids, nobody has ever suggested there was any issue with leaving them in my care.
Child protection issues do tend to bring out hysteria and illogic pretty efficiently, but this representation is unrecognisable, to me anyway.

I think it is a bit of a stretch from "Companies operate stupid CYA policies in the name of child protection" to "Women will customarily accuse you of paedophilia if you compliment their children".

I am not sure, it seems to me though that that is a problem far worse in England and (probably as you implied) not necessarily with babies but with kids.

Happened to me once. I had dropped off my car at a shop about a mile away from my house for a tune up and was walking back to pick it up. On the way I happened to pass a mom and her adorable little girl who couldn't have been more than 3. I took my dishevelled appearance into consideration real quick (hadn't shaved in a few days and had been up since the previous evening, being a nightshift employee and all) and moved to the side giving them a wide berth for passage. I noticed the mom tensed at my presence and was obviously nervouse as we passed each other (why?), so I tried to be pleasant, smiled and said "Hello" to her and then to her daughter. She barely proffered a smile in return and quickly ushered her daughter away from me as if I were a threat.

Oddly enough during the Victorian era children were treated like total crap, between child labor and upper class people dosing their kids with opium to shut them up it was not a good time to be a child.
