Once again, there is NO GENDER ISSUE HERE. It is difficult to prove intent n court. Lots of people who stab other people do not get changed with attempted murder. For example, these cases, all involving male perps:

Police said the lacerations were not serious.

Considering that and the difficulty in proving intent to kill, I don't see a huge problem.
