You're right, it needs to be illegal. And throughout history, it was always illegal in some part of the world (Classical Greece, the Roman Empire, even Stalin thought it was disgusting and that means something).

We are living in a very unique time. This is the only period in history that it's been legal everywhere on earth.

I never knew what it felt like to have a foreskin because my dad thought it was more important to have “mine look like his” than for me to have a choice in one of my health, functional body parts removed without my consent.

I miss my foreskin.

The reason why it is not yet illegal is because of religious opposition.

It will be restricted regardless, just going to take longer than it did with fgm.

My standard response to all these "debates" about male circumcision is this:

1) If any male over the age of consent chooses to be circumcised of his own volition because he wants to align with this religion or that culture, I have no problem with it;

2) Consequently, barring a serious medical condition, there is no justification whatsoever for hacking bits off infant boys (and extremely sensitive bits at that). To do otherwise is an act of barbarism and is no less barbaric than some cultures' practice of mutilating the genitals of young girls.

I mean, us circumcised can jerk off just fine lol. Probably be better if not, but that is something I will never know. It's still legal for no good reason, it should have been banned alongside the female version at the same time. Imagine the outrage if people could beat their daughters legally, but not their sons. Let alone being able to decide on cosmetic surgery, permanently alter their genitals for no medical reason.

Circumcision was never a thing I thought a lot about because I beleived my parents when they told me how painless it was. But like, that's not how pain works, but okay. I can tell now by the way my parents respond to questions when I ask them about it that they're still lying, also lying about what pain it must've caused my mom by letting it happen; since it was decided by my grandparents.

It should be illegal to perform on minors. I'm sure there's still going to be that one guy in a crowd who secretly wants a circumcision.

Only traditional Jews used to perform circumcision as part of their rituals but now they convinced the Americans medical establishment that there is actually "health benefits" and that it helps to prevent HIV among other bullshit.

Illegalising it completely is something that is receiving growing support in my country (🇸🇪), especially as anti-multiculturalism sentiment is growing on the nationalist end of the political spectrum. On the other end of the spectrum the centrist party, traditionally a faction of the center-right but now supporting the minority coalition social-Democrat government, voted to institute a complete ban on child circumcision in Sweden, but were shut down by the party leader, Annie Lööf, on grounds of not respecting the religious self-expression of minorities. It bears repeating that Lööf considers herself a feminist.

It also bears repeating that circumcision in Sweden's African communities involves raw chicken eggs and unsterilised knives, and often result in severely decreased sexual and reproductive function.
