Insamuch as feminism has an obsession with 'victimhood', it is the byproduct of trying to identify victims. I'll just say that.

With that being said, Hollywood has way too many movies starring 18-25 year old men because Hollywood has too many uninspired romantic comedies. It's not so much misogyny as it is Hollywood being unoriginal. In fact most major media has this problem... Videogame developers seem to be fixated on the balding marine archaetype - one because everyone wants to copy Call of Duty, two because actual hair is hard to animate properly, three because the entire CS field is a sasuagefest of socially unadjusted nerds who have never met a woman in their life.

I'm going to call out this paragraph in particular, because it shows evidence of being written by a CS major:

What does such fervid talkativeness portend? A moonshot? New revelations about dark matter? The origin of the universe? No one knows. No one will ever know: even the participants will forget, because at the end of their conversation, if they were to embark upon another circuit of the supermarket and then were to bump into one another again, they would instantly start another mystery immersion in the dark arts of the female conversation.

Y'know what? Humans are social animals. They talk to other people. Excuse me, dear Independent.ie writer, for offending you so much as to act like a human. I forgot only men were humans and that women were supposed to be little flesh-sacs to sexually pleasure ourselves with. Incidentally, I would find a world in which women are lifeless fantasies that don't do anything other than cook and fuck to be... well, there was a book about this called "The Stepford Wives" a while back, and I can tell you the end result of that is not exactly encouraging.

And if you're wondering the reason why women have not acquired 'serious power' is because of old fuckwits like you who keep writing ignorant articles like this. I understand you're trying to say "it's not because they hate women, it's because you're a shitty actor" but you meander along so many various half-baked and fallacy-laced arguments it took me two readings to understand it all. So stop meandering around trying to please the "I like my women the way I like my ribs" croud and get to your point: "Helen Mirren is a shitty actor".

Women in Hollywood need to accept that Sex selling films is a double edged sword. When they're young they can get rolls because of their looks, but as they age this advantage isn't available to them. Helen mirren herself benefited from this when she was younger, now she's upset that the sword is cutting the other way.

I think it's a good article. It's a call for women to be more competitive in the labor force rather than playing the victim card yet again. There was another article posted here http://www.boingboing.net/2010/12/23/lesbians-make-more-m.html about lesbians making more money than straight women. I think it goes to show that (for numerous reasons, such as expecting to be dependent on a man) many women are not competing hard enough in the work place, and then complaining when their lack of effort holds them back that the system is biased.

Good article. The real question is if these women ever act in any roles that the non SATC and Twilight crowds want to see. They bitch about having small roles but they clearly hate the other half of the species which spends money on movies. I wouldn't watch any of their movies if they were free.

Seriously... are they waiting for a handout from Hollywood? Ladies, go out and make some movies! Good ones... with lots of women in it... and with huge explosions. Thanks!
