Okay--here are the stats.

2010: 1/5 women raped, 1/21 men made to penetrate; 1/100 of women experience rape 12 months prior to taking the survey by any perpetrator; 1/20 women and men experienced sexual victimization other than rape 12m prior by any perpetrator, 1/17 and 1/20 men experienced rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner 12m prior.

2011: 19.3% of women and 1.7% of men were raped in their lifetime, 43.9% of women and 23.4% of men experience sexual violence other than rape in their lifetime; 1.6% of women reported being raped 12m prior to the survey, 5.5% of women and 5.1% of men reported other forms of sexual violence than rape in the 12m prior. 1.6% women experienced rape in the past 12m and men experienced made to penetrate at 1.7% in the past 12 months.

2015: Women experienced rape at 1.2% in the past 12m and men experienced made to penetrate at 0.7% in the past 12m. 1/5 women raped lifetime, 1/14 made to penetrate.

2016-2017: 2.3% women reported rape victimization in the past 12 months, 1.3% of men reported being made to penetrate in the past 12 months.

That's a really weird set of data. I don't know what you can reasonably conclude about increasing lifetime prevalence and decreasing past year prevalence simultaneously.

Maybe it's true that men didn't have the language or the capacity to describe themselves as victims of sexual assault until more recently, but that doesn't explain how more men can fail to identify as lifetime victims of made to penetrate while simultaneously reporting being made to penetrate within the past 12 months.

It's definitely an understudied area of interest, but it's easy to understand where feminists are coming from especially when you look at the impact reports of sexual violence and partner violence against women compared to against men. Stalking statistics tell a story in itself. That's not what we're talking about though--the topic is consent, not impact.

Well, if that is true and things are changing, then that's good. I'm too skeptical to take any view of the twelve month statistics because they are so erratic, but we'll see. I haven't done a great deal of research myself. We do know very well that there are more deaths that result from male on female partner violence than the other way around, and statistics also support the fact that sex trafficking and group sexual violence seem to be a more male-related phenomenon. It's okay to be skeptical, but in some ways the data seems pretty clear--and if this is just an issue of men not being able to express themselves I think that's all the more reason that we need to be taking accountability for ourselves as men, because men are going to be the most likely group to dismiss female on male sexual violence, when they can dismiss men who have been assaulted (raped/made to penetrate) as "lucky" or "wimps". Maybe it is more of a boomer thing.

I just hope that everything turns out for the better.
