Anyone who has worked as a LEO or knows a few can tell you that the first thing a publicly abused girlfriend does when someone intervenes is tell you it's none of your business. Worse, there is a high likelihood both will turn violent on you.

Hmmm... maybe I hang out with white knight, outliers but I see plenty of men sticking up for women/people in need IRL when it becomes necessary (which isn't all that common but still). My BIL got into it with some shithead tourist for pushing a local when he and my sister were in a 3rd world country adopting my niece. He had a shit ton to lose but he has principles and wasn't going to sit by. My husband got stuck in a protest on his walk home from work and ended up just staying with the march to take a police officer's shoves instead of a woman he saw getting manhandled.

Men who take on protector roles deserve to be publicly praised for the risks they take.

First off, what makes this dude an alpha?

Second, this is a tricky one. It sounds like a big cop out, and it might well be, but have you ever intervened in something like this yourself? Back in the day I saw guys diving in to help women in this sort of public spat and it didnt usually end well for them. One particular time I remember well a guy stepped in to intervene in a very heated argument between a couple, and he ended up getting a bit of a beat down from the guy and the girl. After he told the guy to chill out, the woman immediately stepped in with something like "who the fuck are you? it's none of your business you fucking prick! are you trying to fuck with my man?" and he wound up getting his butt kicked.

and Im pretty sure Ive seen that more than once.

Furthermore, and it's another cop out I know, if you step into something and it kicks off and you end up winning - you still have a good chance of ending up on an assault charge.

Essentially stepping in in such a situation would be saying "Im going to call the police if you dont stop it right now" and then following through with the warning.

So that's calculated risk for you.

I can't imagine a bigger turnoff than some macho guy butting into everyone's business in an attempt to feel alpha. Unless there's a child in actual physical danger, the wise thing to do is stay out of it.

I don't see how that man was becoming an alpha through being unchallenged. He gained zero social traction. Nobody liked him, nobody would defer to him if he tried to "assert his dominance" over anyone else and I doubt anyone was even afraid of him - it's more that nobody cared enough to intervene. The society is more about minding one's own business this day, and it's not the alphas' doing.

My idea is because beta has a lot to lose like what you said. However, note that if beta is born poor, he will take more risks as he too, has nothing to lose already for he is already at the bottom.

I think as a man, if you ever get into a fight, like a serious fight, such as intervening in a violent altercation between a man and a woman, there will probably be only two outcomes: hospital or jail. And I don't really want to spend time in either one of those places. Best just to call the police.

I mean to be honest I'd love to intervene and stop a violent boyfriend. But I never would for a few reasons:

1) I am not strong enough.

2) I don't want to go to jail.

3) The man might be carrying a weapon.

4) I don't want to end up in hospital.

5) I might misread the situation.

6) The reaction of the woman who is being physically abused by her boyfriend. As u/Unabumer80 mentioned in his reply, he's seen women who have been attacked by their partners turn around and attack the person who was trying to help her. And plus there was another post by a woman here who said that a man intervening would be a "turn off" and that it is "none of their business".

So I say just leave it to the police. Why be a hero?

6 words: not my pussy, not my problem. If she chose a woman-beating "alpha" that's her problem. If I used a high level of violence to "neutralize" the individual, guess who's getting arrested by the SWAT Team? That's right, me. Guess who's sitting in jail, and paying legal fees? Me. To top it off, the woman would probably side with him as well and testify against me in court. Fuck that shit. I don't care. These women (or men) never did anything for me, and I don't care. When I've been threatened IRL, I've had to serve and protect myself. Everyone else can do the same. At least if you're a female, the police or some white knight might help you.

Which list of traits is more associated with alpha, and which is more associated with beta:

Impulsive, aggressive, confrontational, physical, fearless.
Measured, cautious, logical, communicative, risk-averse.

One can make the case that any individual trait is either in a specific, narrow situation, but on the whole the first list is obviously much closer to alpha and the second list is much closer to beta.

Everyone in here asking questions like "Is this guy even alpha?" and "How dumb would you have to be to try and step in?" is missing the point: Thinking and being careful and worrying about the risks are the very behaviors that make men beta. By asking these questions you're just proving OP's point -- that beta guys will sit around not acting, while alpha guys do what they want.

This does not mean beta behaviors are bad -- they're absolutely necessary in some situations, and good in many others. They just don't make you sexually attractive, not matter how smart they are.

On point. Betas, especially those without much family or fallback, are shaking in their boots.

And unfortunately they don't really have anywhere else they can go to compensate for this aside from welfare and food stamps should it get that bad.

I disagree completely with the post. The guy in the post is clearly a VERY aggressive individual, any sign of conflict from a bystander would have turned physical. Even if you "win" the fight which is unlikely as the guy in the post will likely be more experienced, you could end up with a criminal record.

Isn't being "alpha" to do with thinking before acting.

Family is strength but the next level that not even many republicans talk about is familial alliances.

One of my best friends is Vietnamese American 2nd gen and his family and mine are both close now we treat each other's dads like our own.

The problem with millennial is that they can't even drum up the courage to meet their GFs family. Why? Liberal elites know the power of family and so they push everything they can to dissolve it in ordinary citizens.
