I think that only works with people that have a lot of emotional "fuel" or energy, I would be emotionally drained if I had more than one partner.

From what I've seen poly people get a lot more of their needs fulfilled, but at the cost of additional drama and reduced stability. It's a decent lifestyle for people with unusual or strong needs, but it's not conducive to raising children imo.

So. I'd say it's mostly for people who don't want children or whose children have reached their late teens already.

I've always done open relationships, but I frankly don't have the emotional energy for the poly life. Mostly only highly extroverted people with a lot of social drive want to put in the actual work to maintain multiple relationships at once. -- That is, an actual real functioning poly dynamic where everyone gets the amount of attention and relationship stimulation they need.

Jealousy in relationships is partially based off knowing someone else is getting "more" than you might be getting. Poly relationships have to be extremely generous and patient with the needs of every individual or someone will inevitably feel left out (what some poly circles call "being the second" - only desirable for someone who wants less relationship involvement.)

I'm just not patient enough nor generous enough to deal with managing jealousy. I don't want to be responsible for that many people full time.

I don't think polyamory or polygamy ever works long term.

I think in our nature we aren't a truly monogamous species. However at the same time I also think that the problem is that if you don't have monogamy socially enforced what tends to happen is you end up with a lot of useless males around which stirs up trouble.

I have a group of friends that are poly and those couples within that scene have been together forever, even since their teens (we are late 40s). I don’t partake but I’m familiar with the drama that occurs. Someone always ends up with hurt feelings. I’d rather just hang out with my SO and our pets and enjoy the peace.

I' m part of that community and I think Poly is fine as long as people don't get into it for the wrong reasons:

To get around cheating on their partner, to spice of their love life, to have a harem, ect.

While saying that, I still believe Poly marriages should not get legalized.
